Coral Power BromideOur Coral Essentials, Coral Power Bromide is a liquid Sodium Bromide additive at 50000 ppm. Bromine in natural sea water is in the order of 65ppm. For the advanced aquarist bromide levels in marine tanks may be checked regularly to determine the take up in your system.
In natural seawater, bromide can be oxidized (e.g., by ozone, UV/H2O2, or protein skimmers under certain conditions) to form reactive bromine species that have disinfectant properties, helping reduce pathogens and organic load when used in controlled treatments (ozonation, advanced oxidation). Bromide participates in the halogen pool (Cl–, Br–, I–). Maintaining natural halide ratios helps preserve normal seawater chemistry that some invertebrates evolved with. In rare cases where bromide is depleted by prolonged advanced oxidation/ozonation, replenishment restores natural halide balance. Some marine organisms use halides (including bromide) in enzymatic reactions (haloperoxidases) for natural chemical defenses and pigmentation. Adequate halide availability may support those biochemical pathways. Available in 50ml. |
Dosage rate: We recommend starting off dosing 1 drop (0.05ml)/day for each 100L of tank water and increase steadily to 2 drops (0.1ml)/day over a period of a month or so. Do not dose higher than 3 drops (0.15ml)/day for each 100L of water in a heavily stocked system Manual Dosing Tables.
For the advanced aquarist, 0.1ml (2 drops) will raise the Bromide level by 0.05ppm for each 100L of water. Use our Trace Elements Dosing Calculator to easily work out your dosing requirements.
